The Expat Sum

As expats our life experiences have taught us that the overall investments for the expatriate are high. This fact does not only stand for the individuals that wander off on a journey abroad but also for their families, economies, companies and partners that are bound to undergo the same expat experience. Many challenges and obstacles will be faced in the light of living and working abroad.

 

Despite all the concern around global market expansion today, the expatriate selection process for sending company representatives overseas is still woefully inadequate in most corporations. Expatriates are among the most expensive employees, but according to many academics, expatriate failure rates are still relatively high. So, in order to avoid costly mistakes, it is essential for companies to be aware of the critical success factors in expatriate assignments. Besides the financial cost factor we would also like to emphasize the personal cost of an expatriate mission gone bad or even worse a repatriation or relocation ending up in a lost career.
